Sesh Iyer

Sesh is a consultant with Software Technology Transition, and also serves as Vice President – Technology, Alliances & Products at MitoKen.

Sesh’s experience includes leading multiple competency project teams in the financial services, CPG, manufacturing, and telecom industries.  He has managed strategy engagements, IT operations, technology-based software solution implementations, and software process improvement change programs.

Before STT & MitoKen, Seshadri was an experienced manager at Ernst & Young’s Strategy & Transformation group where he worked on several client projects with primary focus on program/project management, and engagement execution.  Earlier at Andersen Consulting, Sesh served as a manager in the Technology practice working closely with Andersen’s several global solution centers to enhance their software delivery capability. Prior to Andersen, Sesh was with Software Engineering Institute (SEI) at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) and the Cellular Infrastructure Group at Motorola.

Sesh is highly experienced in software management and software engineering.  A leading practitioner of software process improvement, methodologies, and the software CMM (SW-CMM), he brings a deep understanding of high maturity organizations, program management, six sigma, quantitative management techniques, measurement, software development lifecycles, quality assurance, and overall change management in the context of both offshore and on-site delivery environments.

Currently, Sesh is an author in the Product Development Team of the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) project at the SEI. As one of the software industry experts on the team, he is involved in the development of the CMMI model and the SCAMPI assessment method.

At Ernst & Young, Sesh led a software process improvement change program for a large energy client that spanned across more than 4 countries with over 100 people, where he directly reported to the CFO. At the same time, Sesh worked on Ernst & Young’s internal efforts to achieve higher maturity across several software development centers worldwide. On another client, Sesh, as the program manager, managed several projects covering technology solution development as well as strategy definition. He had responsibility for the complete project lifecycle – from estimation and development, to deployment and maintenance support.

At Andersen Consulting, Sesh worked in the capacity of an advisor, domain expert, team member, and assessor with 10 solution centers worldwide to improve their software management & development capability. At the same time, he led the development of a quality assurance framework for solution centers. He closely interacted with managing partners and other senior management during this effort.  Also, he led the development an internal software development methodology.

At Motorola, he was a member of the core team that achieved SEI-CMM Level 5, the first commercial organization ever to do so.

Besides being an author of the CMMI and associated material, Sesh has published papers and reviewed books in the area of software management and engineering.  He is a regular speaker at software engineering conferences.  Also, he was a key contributor in translating the SW-CMM into Japanese.

Sesh has a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Mysore, a Master’s degree in Software Engineering from the School of Computer Science at CMU, and has a Master’s in Business Administration from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Business at Northwestern University.
